THE THEOLOGY OF ARITHMETIC

Numbers in antiquity

Joel Kalvesmaki

On this website I present some of my studies and notes on ancient number symbolism, numerology, and the theology and philosophy of mathematics. My focus is on the pre-medieval western world: west of the Indus river, before 1000 CE.

See, principally, my study The Theology of Arithmetic: Number Symbolism in Platonism and Early Christianity. Hellenic Studies Series 59. Washington, D.C.: Center for Hellenic Studies, 2013.
